The newspaper in the back is in mandarin-- and the comments in the white rectangles are screenshots I took of crude comments I've seen on Instagram (e.g. “commie sympathizers view”), under reels remotely related to China or posted by Chinese-Americans.

In reality, the mandarin in the background is arranged nonsensically, and I retrieved the newspaper I used from an anti-CCP group. But people’s individual complexities are so often squashed in favor of a depiction of an alien red and yellow being.
